In the field of panel furniture edge banding, EVA hot melt adhesive edge banding has long maintained a dominant position. However, with the continuous improvement of consumer demands, intensifying industry competition, and the emergence of new processes, PUR edge banding adhesive has been favored by more and more panel manufacturers. Traditional EVA Edge Banding

As the name suggests, EVA edge banding adhesive is used for bonding wood. It has strong applicability and is the most mature technology, capable of bonding most edge banding materials and substrates. EVA edge banding is the most widely used edge banding technology. EVA does not require high equipment standards, and the glue application amount is large, about 200-300g/㎡. The whole reaction principle can be understood as: after melting by heat, it cools and solidifies to produce stickiness, resulting in physical bonding. If it encounters high temperatures (around 90°), it will melt and soften again, losing its original stickiness.

New Process—PUR Edge Banding

As the name suggests, PUR edge banding adhesive is used to bond panels. Its working principle is to apply glue after hot melting, then quickly cool to provide a certain initial strength for preliminary bonding; afterwards, it reacts with moisture to cure, forming a higher bonding strength.

1. Low Usage

In addition to high bonding strength, PUR is also more economical in material usage. The glue application amount for PUR is about 80-100g/㎡, while for EVA it is about 200-300g/㎡. For example, a 25kg box of PUR edge banding adhesive can be used for 12,000 meters of edge banding on 1.8cm thick panels.

2. High Bonding Strength

As mentioned earlier, the curing is moisture curing, requiring a reaction with water in the air, which is a chemical bonding reaction. This means that regardless of high or low temperatures, the firmness of the edge banding will not be affected. Taking Wanhua Lingquan PUR edge banding on straw boards as an example: under normal circumstances, the strength of the adhesive remains above 12kg.

3. Finer and More Attractive Glue Lines

As mentioned earlier, PUR uses less glue than EVA, so it allows for better control of the glue line, making it finer and more attractive. As shown in the picture, the glue line of PUR edge banded panels is almost invisible, and it is only slightly visible on light-colored solid panels.

4. Waterproof and Moisture-proof

PUR requires a moisture reaction to cure. In humid environments such as bathrooms, there is no need to worry about the edge banding coming off or falling off. Taking Wanhua Lingquan PUR edge banding on straw boards as an example: after soaking in water for 72 hours, the strength of the adhesive still remains above 9kg.

Wanhua Lingquan Formaldehyde-free PUR Granular Edge Banding Adhesive

Product Introduction

WHADV-7010 is a high-quality formaldehyde-free PUR granular edge banding adhesive, used for bonding straw boards and various artificial boards with PVC edge bands, wood edge bands, and other materials. It is suitable for domestic and imported medium and high-speed edge banding machines. This product has a wide temperature adaptation range and can be used in most regions of China in both winter and summer. Compared with traditional EVA edge banding adhesive, formaldehyde-free PUR granular edge banding adhesive has the characteristics of being formaldehyde-free, benzene-free; low usage; high bonding strength; and good substrate wettability.

Operating Process and Precautions

1. Automatic edge banding machine: edge banding speed: 18-28 m/min;

2. Edge banding pressure: it is recommended to adjust to 2.5-3kg;

3. Glue application amount: it can be adjusted to 1/2-1/3 of the original EVA glue amount and still have very high bonding strength. The designed bonding strength is reached 24 hours after bonding. The recommended glue application amount is 80-100g/㎡;

4. Operating temperature: 180-200℃.

5. Melting time: for a bottom glue pot, at 190℃, it takes about 30 minutes to melt 500-750g. After all the glue is melted, it is recommended to set the usage temperature to 170℃ to slow down the aging of the glue.

6. After melting: the glue roller should rotate for 1-2 minutes before edge banding to avoid empty glue spots.

7. Glue pot cleaning: PUR edge banding adhesive can be used in the glue pot throughout the day, but at the end of the day's production, the glue in the pot should be as little as possible. At the beginning of the next day's production, new PUR edge banding adhesive can be directly added, and the glue granules should be fully mixed with the remaining glue liquid. After melting, it can be used directly without cleaning the glue pot. Top glue pots are not recommended.

8. Maintenance of remaining hot melt adhesive: when the edge banding machine is not working for a short period, it is recommended to lower the glue tank temperature to about 150℃.

9. Packaging: 250g/bag, 25kg/box. Unused glue after opening the package needs to be sealed and stored.
